At the root of all memories.
We all have memories, cherished times that are intertwined in our very beings in our roots.
My new series of paintings utilise the aged wood of wine barrels as my canvas which adds warmth and resonance to the wildlife depicted on their surfaces. Combined with the rich texture of gold leaf, they combine in a composition that has its own story to tell. As I paint I notice every nuance of the wood and it becomes part of the root of my art.

I find the focus and constant stare of our beautiful Falcons soothing and strengthening.
I worked in watercolour to capture the subtly of the feathers, set against a land and skyline of gold leaf.
But of course as with all artwork, it is what you feel when you look at her that connects the work to the viewer.

New Zealand has many unique and beautiful birds, the Kea is one of the most famous and in-famous. They can make you laugh and steal your backpack all at the same time. Highly intelligent I enjoy their cheeky interactions with us. In this piece they are having a barrel of fun in their natural mountain home.
